How to Explain your Network Marketing Career in the Best Light?
If you’re new to
network marketing, it will become clear to you pretty early on that there is a
certain stigma attached to network marketing in our society. While you’re very
much aware of the amazing potential of an MLM business and how lucky you feel to
be a part of it, there are many, such as your family, friends and
acquaintances, who may not feel the same way about the opportunity.
For example, when
asked about what you do for a living, you will say, “I work at XYZ and I am a network marketer”. Well, do you make a
lot of money? To this, you will probably say, “No, not yet, I’ve been working only for a couple of months and so I
have made $500 so far. But it’s a great business and I hope to do more”.
That won’t go very
well, because what you need to understand is most people have an employee
mindset. So, for them, $500 for 2 months of work is nothing. For them, people
work 40 hours a week, so $500 over 2 months of work means having worked 320
hours for just $500 – which is pretty much a third world wage!
So, this is
clearly not the way to explain your network marketing career to people. So how
do you explain yourself? When you start off as a network marketer, is it
anything more than just a part-time job for you? That’s what you should keep in
mind while explaining yourself to them. Here’s how to do it….
“Now, I’ve worked just 30 minutes a day for the two
months that I’ve been working as a network marketer. In fact, I’ve actually
spent just 30 to 40 hours in the MLM business over the last couple of months. $500
for 30 to 40 hours of work isn’t all that bad really, especially when you are
just starting out.
“It is really nothing more than a part-time job for me.
Any money I make as a network marketer is a useful extra income, in addition to
what I make from my regular job. I will certainly take up network marketing
full-time after I start making more money from it and pick up some valuable
experience, and I’m sure it’s just a matter of time before I do that”
Here are some more tips that can help you…
#1. While you
should explain your network marketing career in the best possible light, don’t
lie and don’t exaggerate. Stay close to the truth and be factual, while staying
positive about the opportunity.
#2. Use the system
to explain the opportunity. You don’t have to do all the work yourself, even
though you’re a great salesperson. Let the company do all the work.
#3. Don’t try too
hard to convince someone to join the opportunity. When you try too hard, this
means you will have to spend a lot of time on them – convincing them to
prospect, to attend meetings, to stay positive and finally not to quit. It’s
really not worth your time.
#4. When
prospecting, don’t work too hard on just one person, no matter how great he or
she is or can be. Prospect as many people as possible, the more the better.
